Welcome to Sunday Retold – stories and prayers based on the set readings for the week. I hope it may be of help to you.
Many churches around the world listen to the same readings together, following the patterns in the Lectionary. Quite often, there is something in The Bible Retold, or Prayers and Verses, that fits. Sunday Retold is an occasional series where I shall try to share those things with you. The usual pattern will include my retelling of the reading or readings, and some prayer that flows from the text and its themes. I will also include my own reflections on the reading or readings, as well as the occasional question to encourage further thought, and suggestions for how to live it out in the week ahead.
If you are part of a community which follows these readings, they may be of use to you in your preparation for Sunday. The combination of Bible retelling and connected prayer seems to work very well for Messy Church. You may find something for All-Age Worship, or work with youngsters or not so youngsters, or in some other way. Some churches have mixed aged groups engaging in activities and discussion in response to the readings, or some other format from the Fresh Expressions movement, and if that describes your Sunday morning then I hope you will find something that works well for you too. I hope that, whatever your age or however you meet, there will be something that blesses your week.
If you are not part of a community that meets together, I hope you will find something to think about, something to help, just the same. I hope that this space can increasingly become an on-line community for you.
Please feel free to use the material from Sunday Retold, and please say where you got it from!
